Refrigerators, for example, will only need to be inspected and tested occasionally because they are rarely disconnected. However, those routinely unplugged, such as low voltage devices in scientific labs, will need to be checked annually or even termly, depending on how often they are used.

Common sense demands that all equipment be visually inspected before use. Power cables and their terminations, in particular, should be examined since they are frequently broken, twisted, and jerked, potentially loosening their connections.

Teachers and technicians must offer supervision to children working with electrical equipment, especially equipment powered by bigger batteries, which can cause significant shocks and severe burns. Those in charge of supervision should have adequate knowledge and expertise in electrical work, an understanding of the risks and measures that must be taken, and the capacity to determine if it is safe to continue working.

Electric shock, electric burns, electrical fires or explosions, and electric arcing can all result in death or damage. Additionally, electric current passing through the body might induce muscle contractions, respiratory failure, heart fibrillation, cardiac arrest, brain damage, or internal burn harm. As a result, school first responders must be trained to deal with electrical injuries and get refresher training regularly.

To help avoid mishaps, school personnel should not accept second-hand electrical appliances as gifts, nor should they bring their gadgets to school unless a competent person has examined them.

Every five years, every educational facility, such as schools, colleges, or universities, must complete the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
